NEARBY TOWNS & CITIES

Savannah Lakes is also surrounded by several unique towns and nearby cities.  Four miles to the east of Savannah Lakes Village is the town of McCormick, SC.  The quaint and historic main street has been recently revitalized to reflect the original architecture from the early 1900's.  You will find antique shops, hardware stores founded in the early 1900’s, and even an “old fashioned” soda fountain to enjoy a treat from as you meander along main street.

Greenwood, SC and Lake Greenwood is just a short drive away. There you can find a larger selection of shopping and dining choices from well known chain restaurants to quaint mom & pop type diners, bistros, and cafes. In the downtown area you will find a community theatre, museum, several local specialty shops and cultural exhibits. Lake Greenwood is a local draw to the area and offers another outdoor boating, swimming and fishing choice.

For even more shopping and dining choices, North Augusta, SC and Augusta, GA are approximately 45 minutes away.

 ABOUT LAKE THURMOND

Lake Thurmond, which is also known by locals as Clarks Hill Lake was built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1954 for flood prevention and hydroelectric power.  It is one of the largest lakes in SC with 70,000 acres and 1,200 miles of mostly uninterrupted shoreline. Lake Thurmond is the third lake in a chain of area Corp of Engineers lakes leading to the Savannah River located near North Augusta, SC and Augusta Georgia. There are three state parks located on the South Carolina side of Lake Thurmond and several more located further in to Georgia.

Like all area Corp of Engineers owned lakes, most of the shoreline is undeveloped providing undisturbed views of nature abounds in every direction.  The surrounding shoreline is sometimes interrupted by an occasional boat ramp area or area campsites. If natural beauty is what you are craving Lake Thurmond may be just where you need to be looking for it.
